I personally think that having the pictures there is a quicker way to identify the last person who posted in said area. I'm a fairly visual person, so it may just be me who works like that.

I like it with the image. You can easily visualize who it is.

I thought that the general purpose of having the images was to make whoever posted last easier to identify. For example, if someone posted on your topic whom you were waiting to post, then you would know, and saver the trouble of truly going in and taking a closer look. Obviously some of us may do this anywa, simply because there could have been more than one topic that specific user had posted in, but all in all, it gives more finesse? XD
